Should I See An Allergist Or Immunologist?

ALLERGYIf your allergies are severe or can’t be managed with prescribed medications from your family doctor, you should seek out the guidance and knowledge of an Allergist or Immunologist.

General Practitioners who do not specialize in allergy treatment should immediately send a person under their care to an Immunologist, if they experience any of the following incidents or symptoms:

  1. If you have a history of anaphylaxis or have had such a reaction
  2. If at any point you have had to be hospitalized due to your allergies
  3. If you have asthma, allergic skin rashes, regular itchy or pink eyes, and your symptoms seem to only be getting worse each season
  4. If you simply need or want to further your education on your allergies and want to seek out alternatives to the preventive steps you are already taking

Seeing an Allergist or Immunologist is a great way to seek out new and more specific treatments for your allergies or asthma.

Your general physician may only be able to treat your ailments to a certain degree within their expertise. That is why many people have chosen to see a specialist who has a background in allergy and asthma treatment.
