Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways of humans which causes chest tightness, wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing. The exact cause of asthma is still unknown to all and even the symptoms may vary from one person to another.  The one thing that we do know is that an asthma attack is often triggered when the airways come in contact with something that is referred as an asthma trigger. When this trigger hits the airways, the airways tend to become narrow, get inflamed and get filled with mucus.

  • Hormones can also act like an asthma trigger. For example, some women may experience worsened case of asthma during her period or before it while some may experience asthma attacks during pregnancy or during menopause.
  • Some medicines can also acts like a trigger for asthma and must be eliminated if recognized.
  • In some cases, even sex can act like an asthma trigger for certain people.
