I am a pharmacist and have developed a chronic dry cough which is triggered when I am talking. There are times that I seem short of breath but it is not constant. It does not seem to be exercised induced,is worse in the cold.I am 54 years of age and take metoprolol 50 mg twice daily for atrial fib/flutter.Metoprolol is a less selective beta-blocker which is not specific for heart and can have an effect on respiration.Perhaps atenolol would be better? It seems to have developed since I started metoprolol a few years ago but does not seem to be getting worse but not better.I have tried allergy medications and advair diskus with not alot of success but have not used longterm.Cough variant asthma????I fully intend to see my MD.Thanks Rob.
