Most Common Causes Of Food Allergies

Did you know that only 8 foods are responsible for 90 percent of all food allergies? Those foods are
- Peanuts
- Shellfish
- Fish
- Tree Nuts, Which Includes Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts And Pecans
- Eggs
- Milk
- Soy
- Wheat
Allergic reactions to foods may range from mild to very severe. Some allergic responses, such as an anaphylactic reaction, can be fatal.
Other food “allergies” may only be a mild sensitivity or intolerance; for example, true milk allergies are rare, but lactose intolerance is more common.
Typically, the more times you are exposed to an allergen, the more intense your reaction becomes. Children who are allergic to wheat, milk, soy and eggs, however, often lose these allergies as they grow.
Because food allergies are common among children, schools are becoming increasingly sensitive to the problem and developing measures to make the school environment safer for children with food allergies.
Most children who have food allergies do a good job of avoiding known triggers. Reactions more frequently occur when a food contains an allergen that would not have been expected, for example, an egg roll that was supposed to contain only vegetables is found to also contain shrimp.
