Scientifically, allergies are said to be a condition when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance abnormally. An allergy happens due to dust, animal hair, pollen, foods or synthetic materials and causes an over-reaction to our immune system. It causes different sorts of effects on human body like dry patches, itchy rashes, watery or puffy eyes, headaches, digestive issues, or a runny nose. Although allergies are of different kinds, there are some essential oils which can help in getting a relief from them. Lavender Essential Oil –

This oil naturally contains calming, anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender oil helps in bringing relief from allergies causing skin rashes, irritation, and eczema. It also helps in respiratory allergies. You just have to add 2-3 drops of lavender oil onto the allergic area. But before applying this oil alone, you must trial out what works best for your skin irritation. Or you can use carrier oil like sweet almond oil and add 1-2 drops of lavender oil in it.

Peppermint Essential Oil –

Peppermint oil helps to ease allergies that affect respiratory and digestive tracts, as this oil is very soothing, anti-inflammatory and cooling. This oil has a very strong aroma which helps in clearing respiratory blockage providing soothing relief. The peppermint oil can be diluted with carrier oil like sweet almond oil and then applied to the forehead, chest or cheeks in a case of respiratory allergies.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil –

Eucalyptus oil supports the respiratory system and is one of the well-known oil to ease seasonal allergies as well as asthma attacks. It is advised to always dilute eucalyptus oil with carrier oil and then can be applied to the neck, chest or bottom of your feet.

Lemon Essential Oil –

This oil works as a natural antihistamine cools down inflammation and relieves excess mucus, which happens due to the allergic reaction. Lemon oil also helps in increasing blood flow in the body which is helpful in reducing congestion. It is used in combination with peppermint and lavender.

When using any of these oils internally, it is advised to only take 1 to 2 drops a day for one month, as a little part of these oils goes the long way. Take a two-week break after using the oil for a month, and then you can start the treatment again.
