- Mothers who smoke during their pregnancy can also cause the development of allergies in their children. Smoke triggers inflammation in the lining of young children’s airways. This again sensitizes the children to allergic substances. Children who are exposed to smoke at the age of 2 months were 28 percent more likely to have antibodies to either an indoor air allergen or a food allergen.
- Along with genetic causes, environmental exposure can also make your child to suffer from allergies. But it is difficult to avoid the exposure to some allergens like animal dander in schools and day cares.
Omega 3 fatty acids to prevent child allergies:
Omega 3 fatty acids have a protective effect on allergies in children. If a woman consumes fish oil during pregnancy or breast feeding, then the child will experience considerably fewer allergic reactions than the woman who didn’t consume this supplement.
Fish oil consumption lessens prostaglandin E2 in mother’s blood. Prostaglandin E2 is the substance which triggers allergic immune response. When the consumption of omega 3 fats increases, prostaglandin E2 substance level decreases.
Finally, omega 3 fats influence mother’s immunological condition in a less inflammatory path. Obviously it affects the child’s immune system also.
